Now on the App Store - The Concise Oxford English Dictionary by Prelude
Oxford's concise dictionary is a wonder to have in such an accessible format. The convenience supplied by this app makes elocutionary conversation just a touch away! In any situation, you can look up an unknown word with such speed and ease you won't hesitate to pull out your COED (Concise Oxford English Dictionary) everywhere you go.
The pronunciations and pronunciation key provide the ability to say what you want, when you want. The IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) employed in these pronunciations was written by the oldest organization for phoneticians still in existence. It has been specifically researched, tested and created to communicate any pronunciation perfectly. The basics of phonetic analysis are presented so that the principles underlying the Alphabet can be readily understood. Say it, and say it right!
Easy to use, nice to look at and highly functional, this dictionary is truly a great addition to your application library. You can read more about this app on the Prelude Mobile website, or to buy it on the App Store, click here.

The Concise Oxford English Dictionary is Coming
The rumor has it right. Prelude Mobile is releasing the Concise Oxford English Dictionary on the iPhone and soon! Scheduled to be posted on the App Store in February 2009, this app is predicted to swiftly increase vocabularies world-wide with speed and accuracy through Prelude Mobile's sleek presentation of the linguistic powerhouse that is the COED (Concise Oxford English Dictionary).
This app permits no foible nor inconvenience, allowing for intensely speeded trips to the dictionary. This is extended to virtually zero load time for even the largest definitions, and includes such important simplicities as maximum screen "real estate" used for definitions. Even a full pronunciation key, utilizing the highly functional IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet), is readily available for user application.
The refined design inherent to this app coupled with the incredibly thorough and extensive content of the COED, creates a powerful diving board from which any plunge into the English language may be taken with great success. This stems greatly from the level of dictionary which the COED has come to be. Many definitions contain sub-meanings, providing exact definitions for all use cases. These are complimented by the extensive number of idioms provided and completed by the numerous technical, archaic and specialized definitions. This is wrapped up tight by the intensive word origins which promote a full understanding of the word through its etymology.
College campus goers and casual readers alike will be no stranger to this app. The usability carefully developed for this app integrates quickly into any iPhone lifestyle. Whether close reading the prose of the "Bard of Avon" or casually flipping through Nora Roberts, this app will increase your understanding and enjoyment of whatever English you are engaged in.
Your vocabulary knight errant will be available on the Apple App Store this February. Read more about the Concise Oxford English Dictionary here.
